ST ANTHONY'S CATHOLIC CHURCH

St Anthony's RC Church

*

St Anthony's Catholic Parish Church was first established in 1864.
It's congregation grew due to the large influx of immigrants from Ireland and the Highlands.
The present church was built in 1879 from a design by John Honeyman.
It is an unusual Italian Romanesque style with polychrome stonework. However, it's exterior does little to prepare one for the magnificence of the interior which includes giant Corinthian columns in the nave and a marble lined apse.
