GOVAN DRY DOCKS

Taken in 1957 the ship is a Donaldson liner andI'm guessing it is the "Captain Cook" of that era.
Thanks to George Muir for the pic and info above.

At Stag Street and Govan Road (where the last stag in Govan was alleged to have been slain), you will come across the former Govan Dry Docks.
The Dry Docks were built on the site of Salters Croft (farm land) at the eastern end of the old village.
Constructed under the supervision of James Deas, they were built to meet the growing demand for ship repair facilities on the Clyde.
Dock No.1, nearest the river, was opened in 1875, dock No.2 in 1886 and dock No.3 in 1898, their lengths being 551 feet, 575 feet and 880 feet respectively.
Dock No.3 could be divided into two seperate docks allowing two ships to be serviced at once.
The Dry Docks were closed in 1988.
At the bottom of Stag Street was Highland Lane, leading to a ford which was used to run cattle across the river.

April 2005; A Marina is to be built at the historic site on the banks of the river.
The river attraction will be part of a £150million housing development.
Shops, restaurants and bars will also be built alongside more than 1000 properties, and a new footbridge will link the development to the Glasgow Science Centre, Imax Theatre, Pacific Quay and the bridge over to the SEEC and Armadillo complex
