Sail on The River Clyde

PRIDE OF THE CLYDE RIVERBUS

*

A former diver is taking the plunge on a Clyde Riverboat Service he hopes will rival Amsterdam's famous water buses.
Experienced boatman Alex Gilmour has remortgaged his house, cashed in insurance policies and taken out loans to invest in a new passenger ferry for the city centre.
Alex (46) from Mount Vernon, spent £115,000 buying his Pride of The Clyde Riverbus, which he hopes to launch on April 6th.
He imported the 58ft ferry boat from Holland and is waiting for approval from maritime authorities before starting the service from Braehead to the Broomielaw.
The boat will carry between 50 and 120 passengers between the city centre and the shopping centre.
Alex said the trips would take less than 30 minutes and fares would be £2.50 one way, £4 return and £3 return for OAP's.
The only regular passenger trips on the Clyde are the recently launched Glasgow Ducks, which are amphibious road and river vehicles which take tourists all over the city.
Clydefast from Greenock plan to operate a £20million passsenger ferry service from the Broomielaw via Braehead on to the west coast tourist trails.
