08 August 2000 - City hosts Asian games

Glasgow will once again be hosting the Asian Football Championships at Scotstoun Leisure Centre, with the final to be held at Celtic Park.
Eight teams from across the UK will take part in the competition, which runs from Friday, September 1 to Sunday September 3.
The Scottish Asian Sports Association are the only Scottish team and they will be looking to win the title held by Albion Sports of Bradford.
Aiming to highlight and profile Asians' enthusiastic support and participation in football, the championships continue to build on the work that Glasgow has undertaken to foster good relations in pursuit of equal opportunity for all.
The event, which is organised by Glasgow City Council, is supported by SASA, Rangers and Celtic, with Celtic Charity Fund as title sponsors.
Entry to the qualifying rounds is free, while there will be a £2 charge to attend the final at Celtic Park. (2.pm kick-off)
