
JOHN 'Johnny' QUIGLEY

John 'Johnny' Quigley, was born in Govan on June 28th 1935.
He started his football career as a midfielder with local Junior team St Anthony's before moving to Ashfield.
He joined Nottingham Forest in July 1957 and scored 58 goals in 270 appearances in the seven seasons he was there.
In 1958, he was the first Forest player to score a post war hat-trick, which came against Manchester City.
His goal against Aston Villa at Hillsborough won the FA Cup semi-final which insured Forest a place in the 1959
FA Cup Final, when he was a key player in the 2-1 victory over Luton Town.
He left Nottingham in February 1965 and moved to Huddersfield Town then on to Bristol City in October 1966.
In July 1968 he moved to Mansfield Town and in 1969 enjoyed being part of that clubs most famous moment when they beat West Ham United, with many of England's World Cup Squad, 3-0 in the FA Cup, and progressed to the quarter finals. He then became assistant player-manager/trainer-coach and left in 1970 to coach at Doncaster Rovers, before moving to Kuwait and Saudi Arabia where he coached for five years.
John sadly died in Nottingham on November 30th 2004.
