Born and bred in KINNING PARK
A product of the Ibrox youth system, Ian Durrant made his debut in 1985 under
then manager Jock Wallace. Even with the arrival of Graeme Souness, he remained
a regular in the first team and put in some outstanding performances with his
ability to make forward runs and score vital goals.
His best performance was probably in the 1987 Skol Cup in which a scored a
wonderful goal and was named man of the match. However tragedy struck in October
1988, when in a match against Aberdeen, a horrendous tackle by Neil Simpson
destroyed his knee.
Drastic surgery in America followed and despite several set backs, he made
his return to football in 1991 in a reserve match at IBROX PARK which drew some 30,000
spectators. Since then he has turned in some fine performances, especially in
the Champions League but perhaps the rigours of the Premier League are not
suited to someone who has suffered such a severe injury.
He recently joined Kilmarnock FC but will always have a soft spot for the club he has
supported since a boy.
The BEARS will still support him!
