The 23rd of February 2000 will be a day I will not forget for a number of reasons.
It was one of the most exciting and emotional days of my professional career.
Not only was it the end of 10 months of extemely hard work it was also the day that Erskine 2000 became a reality for a lot of us.
I would like to say a fond farewell to all Invernairn residents and staff and hope you are settling well in your new homes. It is hard to believe that there isn't an Invernairn any more.
When
I locked the doors on that morning I wasn't just leaving the place I had worked for the last 8 years, I was also leaving a lot of friends, our residents whom we had the privilege of knowing and caring about, their relatives whom we felt were part of our family but also memories of those we had the pleasure of knowing over the years and who sadly had not survived to see the realisation of our new Erskine. Mine were not the only tears shed that morning.
That however was only one part of the scenario.
On the
other hand we all had a bright and exciting future to look forward to.
We were either moving to a new, bright, clean and modern home or going to work in a modern state of the art workplace.
It is obvious to us from the wonderful send off and subsequent wishes for success that you all feel the same.
23rd February was also the day that the much talked about teamwork in Erskine Hospital proved how successful it was. It is with gratitude that I remember the guidance, support and friendship I personally recieved
over the last ten months in particular.
When you wish to thank people for their help and support, you fear there is someone you will leave out and cause offence to them. I can honestly say that it would be impossible to thank everyone.
Erskine Mains Home is the result of a true Erskine Team effort and its success is your success.
You all have a lot of hard work ahead of you, but there is plenty of support available. Don't be afraid to ask for it.
The most rewarding aspect for me about
the last 10 months was the realisation that the uniqueness that Erskine Hospital talks about is fact and not fiction. Every member of staff employed at Erskine is dedicated and committed to those whom we care for and about. With this team effort there is no way we can do anything other than build on and enhance the reputation that we currently enjoy.
I wish you all every success in preparing for your new venture.
Remember that Erskine Mains remains a part of Erskine Hospital and we would
be delighted to see you anytime.
